MINI MARATHON on Thursday, 4th March 2021
Oshwal Academy Nairobi Nursery was a beehive of activity as the Reception Learners prepared to participate in the much-awaited Mini Marathon. The sports department lead by Mr. Joseph and Mr. Evance were in high gear putting in place the final touches of the preparations. Routes were well demarcated and directional signs clearly placed. Ms. Jacqueline designed the starting and finishing points which were colorfully conspicuous. The skies were bright and clear, a perfect day for the race.
There was excitement right from the gate as the young marathoners arrived in style dressed up in their sportswear walking majestically looking forth to the grand event. Ms. Brenda and Mr. Moses could be seen setting the public address for improve communication and entertainment , while Mr. Brian was skillfully capturing moments of the event as they unfold.
Team members were strategically stationed at various check points to motivate runners, provide health and safety support, and ensure religious adherence to all COVID rules including social distancing .
It has been quite a while since learners and the team had come together for a physical activity such as the marathon due to COVID 19 and hence the adrenalin rush.
“Do not stop when you are tired. Stop when you are done.” Such was the young marathoner’s attitude as they assembled at the starting point ready to conquer the 400 meters terrain.
“Health is the greatest wealth.” Physical activity promotes healthy lifestyle while building endurance and further developing gross motor skills. Running is very refreshing and rewarding to learners as it offers a feeling of achievement and a sense of self- actualization when they reach the finish line.
Sports Activities boost learners’ confidence and stamina while eliminating stress and depression. Before the warming up exercises in preparation to the grand start, Our Head of school Mrs. Rooma Mali who is an impactful leader had encouraged the young marathoners and the staff to have a healthy and fit lifestyle. The message was clear and precise “Every Champion was once a contender that refused to give up,” she said, quoting the words of Rocky Balboa. Our Deputy Head Ms. Chepngetich Koech who is an enthusiastic person, did a running commentary for learners and staff to enjoy the moment.
In adherence to COVID 19 protocols, the participating classes were flagged off each at a time to avoid overcrowding at the starting point and along the entire 400 meters stretch ; Reception blue led by Teacher Mercy and Lydia were first on the tracks followed by Reception Orange led by Teacher Harriet, Reception Yellow by Teacher Saida and Linda, Reception Green with Teacher Amina and Lucy, Reception Gold Teacher Betty and Everlyn and lastly but not least , Reception Red with Teacher Sandra and Wilkister. Mr. James was dressed in the lion’s costume to cheer and entertain our learners which added fun to this event.

With the support accorded to us by our esteemed parents back at home , the Event went on smoothly. Each group finished their race in record time without any incident or accident. It was yet another successful day for the entire team and a momentous day for the Reception Learners to behold.
