Oshwal Academy Nairobi Nursery School, in conjunction with Nairobi Chess Academy & Club (NACHA), hereby wishes to invite you to the above event. The event will take place on Saturday, 24th May 2025, at Oshwal Academy Nairobi Nursery School off Wambugu Road, Parklands.  The top three players in each category will receive a trophy and medals. All players will receive a certificate of participation.

The registration deadline is Wednesday, 21st May 2025

The top 3 schools will be awarded trophies.
The event is open to junior players under 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, and 18 years, in both boys’ and girls’ categories.

RULES & REGULATIONS (All Sections):
  1. FIDE tournament rules will apply, and the Arbiter’s decision will be final.
  2. Scoring: The tournament scoring will be based on the game point (1 point for a win,0.5 point  for a draw, and 0 points for a loss)
  3. Pairings will also be done based on the Game points and not on the Bilbao system 
  4. Tiebreaks: (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss), also popularly known as the “Bilbao System,” followed by Buchholz (37) and Sonneborn-Berger (52).
  5. There will be no tiebreak games, and the above (4) tiebreaks will apply in case of any ties for podium finishes (trophy and medals).
  6. Only players and arbiters shall be allowed in the actual playing hall, except with the express permission of the arbiter. Hence, there will be no spectators in the playing hall except with the arbiter’s permission. Players who have finished their games are spectators and will be asked to leave the playing hall.
  7. Recording of moves is optional. Players are not allowed to leave their boards before submitting the results to the arbiter.
  8. During a game, a player is forbidden to have a mobile phone, electronic means of communication, or any device capable of suggesting chess moves switched on. Such devices should hence be COMPLETELY SWITCHED OFF or left outside the playing venue. Failure to comply with this will lead to a loss of the game. The opponent shall win.
  9. A player may withdraw before the end of the tournament, and their score at the time of withdrawal shall stand. A player(s) who withdraws before the end of the tournament is still eligible for the event’s prizes.
  10. The playing venue will include the playing hall, washrooms, and a refreshments area. Note: No smoking area is provided.  Players are not allowed to leave the playing venue without permission from the arbiter.
  11. In the event of any appeals, an appeals & arbitration panel (to be constituted at the start of the tournament) will rule on all appeals except those not provided for in the FIDE Laws of Chess.
  12. Chess sets and clocks will be provided.
  13. Tournament results will be published on Chess-Results.com.

  1. Pairings for Round 1 (in all categories) will be out by 8 am on Saturday, 24th May 202,5 and will be posted on the www.chess-results.com.
  2. Persons who register after the deadline (6 pm on Wednesday, 21st May 2025) may miss round one in their respective categories. They will start playing from round two.
  3. Any further information (changes, clarifications, additions, etc.) will be communicated in due time
