What is ADHD?
American psychiatric association simplifies ADHD as “Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.” ADHD is one of the most common mental disorders affecting children. ADHD also affects many adults. Symptoms of ADHD include inattention (not being able to keep focus), hyperactivity (excess movement that is not fitting to the setting) and impulsivity (hasty acts that occur at the moment without thought).”
Diagnosis process:
ADHD cannot be diagnosed using the medical system for example blood samples etc. It is diagnosed based on the symptoms exhibited by the individual, psychologist, the school counselor can give a clear diagnosis and the level of the condition. Mostly these conditions are manageable, and our children turn efficient and successful in life.
Professional’s expectation:
- When are the unusual symptoms noted in a child’s daily routine?
- At what age/month these symptoms started?
- Which environment do these symptoms occur? For example, at home or school.
- Do the symptoms affect the child’s day to day life? For example, social skill deficit.
- What is the family history of ADHD?
Treatment:
This disorder can be assisted by therapy and medicine to relieve the symptoms and make the condition much less of a problem in day-to-day life.
To repeat a combination of both medicine and therapy is often best in the treatment of ADHD.
