ADL (Activities on daily living)
Activities on daily living- the topic is self-explanatory; it refers to all activities accomplished by an individual to thrive independently in their daily routine. Everyone needs certain self-care skills to simply get through the day. A child needs assistance in developing these skills. These learning opportunities are intended to provide children with the skills they need to function in their everyday life. Depending on their age, children may be taught everything from simply routines such dressing, brushing and toileting skills to more complex activities such as taking public transportation or shopping for groceries.
ADL skills can be divided into three categories: –
- Personal Care Assistance,
- lifestyle Support or Instrumental Activities,
- Activity Assistance or Domestic Activities.
Early intervention concentrates mostly on personal care assistance which can also be called self-care skills. One way to think about it is that they are the things people do when they get up in the morning and get ready to leave their house and thrive in public. Developmental delays due to certain reasons can prevent a child to perform critical self-care actions without support. Most of the time it also challenges the parents and educators but as a school, we give all therapeutic intervention and encourage change through positive and repetitive actions. We always strive to educate our learners with the above skills at Oshwal Nursery.
